Marcus Rashford has dominated the headlines this week.
Despite not being in the matchday squad for Manchester United’s 2-1 win over Manchester City on Sunday, Marcus Rashford has been the bigger story in town.
This led to the 27-year-old giving an interview to respected journalist Henry Winter. Rashford revealed he is ready to leave Old Trafford just weeks after Ruben Amorim’s appointment.
Since becoming United’s head coach, Amorim has made it clear that he wants to help Rashford get back to his best. It would greatly benefit the team if he could replicate his form from two seasons when he scored 30 goals across all competitions.
However, Rashford sounds like somebody ready for a new challenge rather than a footballer looking to challenge himself at the biggest club in the Premier League.
Rashford said there would be “no hard feelings” once an exit is set in stone, unlike other Cristiano Ronaldo who chose to badmouth the club and the personnel involved.
It’s a brave decision from Rashford. Fans will feel that it shouldn’t be ending this way, but maybe he’s lost his hunger for it.
Roy Keane not surprised by Marcus Rashford statement
Roy Keane always has something to say when it comes to United.
Speaking on The Overlap, the former Republic of Ireland international stressed that he sees no issue in Rashford’s admission and admits that change could do the under-fire forward the world of good.
“I actually don’t mind that,” Keane said. “I don’t mind what he said, I know it’s a bit long, but I think his message is spot on. Sometimes a deal just works for everybody. It has been going on for a year or two now.”
Keane added: “He has been at the club since he was a kid. Change would probably do him the world of good for him and his family. Maybe just go and play abroad or wherever it might be.”
While the change could be what Rashford needs to rejuvenate his career, his potential transfer represents a risk for any of Europe’s top clubs. They must consider his form on top of a significant salary.

Rashford has made 24 appearances this season, recording 10 goalscoring contributions.
It’s not enough to say he’s back to his best – or close – but there have been signs of improvement from his terrible slump last term.
Rashford’s admission gives the impression that he’s already given up on trying to get into Amorim’s long-term plans. That’s an issue and may explain why he was dropped for the Manchester derby.
The least Rashford can do is try his utmost for Manchester United until the day he leaves the club.
